The Hardest Mission: A NaLi Fanfiction: Chapter 3 - The Date

"Has anyone seen Natsu lately?" asked Fairy Tail's resident ice mage as he entered the guild hall.

Mirajane heard his question and waved him over to the counter she was currently cleaning.

"He's not here right now, at least I don't think he is." said Mirajane as she continued to work.

"Great, just great. I guess I'll go check his usual haunts then." Gray turned to leave.

"Good luck finding him." said Mira as Gray started to walk away.

"What makes you say that? You make it sound like he'd be hard to find." asked a curious Gray as he turned back towards Mira.

"Well it's just that he hasn't been seen much around here the last few days. Ever since Lisanna agreed to go out on a date with him, he's been kinda scarce around here. I assume it's because he's been busy planning his date.

"Natsu? Plan a date?" Gray found that hard to believe. Heck, even just the fact that Natsu was actually showing interest in a girl was still blowing his mind, and he was sure that several other guild members shared his disbelief.

"Personally, I hope it goes well for him." said Mira with a smile. "He deserves it, they both do."

"I take it you support this then? I mean Natsu dating your sister that is." asked Gray.

Mira didn't even hesitate to respond. "Yes, I do."

"What about Elfman?"

"He protested at first, but after a little persuasion and a promise from Natsu to not let anything happen to Lisanna, he agreed to it." explained Mira.

"Well, if that's the case, I guess it would be rude of me to not wish them the best then. I guess I can let him off the hook this time." Gray turned and started to leave.

"Why exactly were you looking for him anyway?" questioned Mira.

"It's not important. I'll catch him later."

The Next Day,

It was finally here, the day Natsu had been planning all week. He wanted everything to be perfect and had gone to great lengths to ensure that they would be. The only question now would be whether or not Lisanna enjoyed what he had in store for the two of them.

Natsu waited nervously at the front gate of the guild. This was where he had asked her to meet him. He looked up when he heard her voice.

"Sorry I'm late Natsu! Have you been waiting long?" asked Lisanna as she approached.

"Not really..." Natsu trailed off after getting a good look at how beautiful she was. She was dressed in a very pretty, light blue summer dress that went to just above her knees and was frilled slightly around the bottom edge as well as the sleeves. Her shoes were a set of flats that matched her dress and she had a matching purse slung over her shoulder. It was a rather simple outfit but it suited her very well, so much that Natsu couldn't help but stare.

Lisanna noticed him staring and blushed slightly. "Well, what do you think?"

"You look beautiful Lisanna."

"Thank you Natsu. You know, I didn't think I would ever get to wear this outfit. I was saving it for my first date and I was beginning to think I'd never get to wear it, so thank you for giving me that chance."

"This is your first date?" Natsu couldn't believe what he was hearing. Lisanna was very pretty and rather popular with many of the guys in the guild and so it was reasonable to assume that she had been on dates with at least a few of them before, but not having gone on any...

"Yes, it is. Believe it or not, I have been waiting for you to ask me out. I have been asked out by quite a few guys, but to be honest, I turned them all down because I wanted my first date to be with you." Lisanna blushed a little harder.

"Wow" thought Natsu. "I really can't mess this up then. If this really is her first date I have to make sure it's nothing less than perfect."

"Well, enough about me, shall we get going?" asked Lisanna.

"Right, let's go."

Natsu led the way to their first stop, a newly opened cafe in downtown Magnolia for lunch. During lunch, the couple chatted about various things. Natsu had never been very good at small talk, so he'd practiced this several times over the last few days to make sure it didn't seem awkward and by the time they had finished lunch, he was fairly sure he had succeeded.

"Alright, next is the shopping district. We'll look through a few stores and hopefully we'll find something you'd like as a souvenir, something to remember this day by."

"Ok, lead the way Natsu." said Lisanna as she took his hand. She watched him blush a little as she did so.

The two made their way to the shopping district and began browsing the stores. For the next few hours they weaved in and out of the various shops until Lisanna had found her prize, a small, plush dragon that, according to Natsu, looked a lot like Igneel.

By this time the sun had begun to set. Natsu had one last thing he wanted to do before calling it a day. The pair made their way to Magnolia's Central Park where they found and sat down on a bench facing the setting sun.

When they sat down, Lisanna leaned close to Natsu and rested her head on his shoulder while Natsu wrapped his arm around her and pulled her as close as he could. They stayed this way for some time before either of them spoke.

"Thank you for everything today Natsu. I had a great time."

"I'm glad you liked it." Natsu reached into his pocket with his free hand. "I have one more thing to give you." He pulled a small box out of his pocket and handed it to Lisanna who sat up.

"What's this?" Lisanna asked as she opened it. Inside was a silver necklace that had a small pendant containing a bright blue gem at the center hanging from it. "It's beautiful Natsu. Thank you."

"It's no ordinary pendant. I had it enchanted with a special spell that will allow you to talk to me no matter where I am. It will also let me know if you are in trouble and if anything happens, I'll come running as fast as I can. Here, let me put it on you so we can see how it looks on you, Lisanna."

She handed him the necklace and as he finished putting it on, she leaned in and kissed him. She could tell that he was surprised at first, but he didn't pull away. His lips were warm and gentle, just like she had imagined them to be. When they finally parted, Natsu rested his forehead gently against hers.

"I love you, Lisanna." Natsu whispered.
"I love you too, Natsu." Lisanna whispered back.

As the sun finished setting, Natsu walked Lisanna home where they shared another kiss before parting ways. As Lisanna headed inside, and Natsu headed home, they were both thinking the same thing, that they were the luckiest and happiest people on the planet.
First I want to say how sorry I am for taking so long to get this done. I kept saying I would do it soon but keep putting it off and putting it off. My only hope now is that it was worth the wait. ^^;

I must also apologize for any and all grammatical or spelling mistakes. I don't currently have a word processing program on my computer so I had to write all of this right into the text submission box.  On top of that I'm still a little rusty when it comes to writing fan fiction so please be patient with me.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Any comments or constructive criticism would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading!
